Reparations:
Reparations start with financial compensation and economic restitution as the foundation of repair.
The return of our families' stolen wealth is at the CORE of what Reparations means to us. As California residents and descendants of people emancipated from hundreds of years of free and forced labor in California and across America (American Freedmen), only we can define what Reparations for Slavery and its aftermath in the U.S truly means.
California's government allowed, supported, and profited from Slavery. After Slavery, when our families worked hard to rebuild, California's government either prevented them from benefiting from the fruits of their labor or took it from them outright.
REPARATIONS are paid to individuals and groups of people to compensate them for harm done to them by a government or institution. The purpose of Reparations is to restore, empower, and protect the community.
Reparations are a means to a California with a thriving and powerful community of residents whose Ancestors overcame enslavement and built America.
